General Conference Information
In June 2001, Proverbs 31 Ministries began a new area of outreach called She Speaks to help women live out the truth of Proverbs 31:26, “She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” Since then, we have hosted an annual She Speaks conference to encourage and equip women as they communicate God’s Word through writing, sharing their testimony, leading a Bible study and speaking from the podium.
Over the years the conference has grown beyond anything we could ever have imagined. Each year we are overwhelmed by the cards, letters, and emails we receive following the conference. Women from around the globe are equipped, encouraged, and inspired. As one attendee wrote, “I have attended numerous speakers and writers conferences and I can tell you that nothing compares to She Speaks. The sessions were filled with tons of valuable information and resources. I had no idea how much I didn’t know! I was able to meet with a publisher that I had previously been unable to even contact. But, what really set this conference apart is that God showed up! I will definitely be back next year!”
Here’s what’s in store for 2013:
Whether you feel led to speak in a large arena or lead Bible studies in your church, you will be equipped with the tools you need to effectively share your message, build your platform, and market your ministry.
As part of your She Speaks experience, you have the opportunity, on a first-come-first-served basis, to sign up to be part of an optional Speaker Coaching Group. These small groups meet twice during the conference, are divided by experience level and are led by an experienced speaker associated with Proverbs 31.
You will be asked to come with a five-minute teaching message prepared and will deliver it to the small group during one of the sessions. The leader of the group will offer constructive and encouraging verbal feedback and will lead the peer group through giving their input as well. The group will also spend time brainstorming with you ideas for expanding that short message into a full-length talk. Groups will be formed according to speaking experience: beginner, intermediate and advanced. There are a limited number of groups, so if this is an interest for you, please register soon.
Learn everything from basic writing guidelines to preparing an article or manuscript for submission, and everything in between. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with some of the top editors, publishers, and literary agents in the Christian market. This option is also available to speakers. Please note that these appointments are scheduled throughout the conference, but never during main sessions or meals. You might miss a workshop, but they are all recorded and available to purchase.
An exciting new option for those on our writer track is a hands-on platform-building workshop. We’ve gathered experts in the fields of blogging and social media to meet with you in small groups, answer your questions and help you with your own platform. You’ll need to pick one group at the time of registration. Bring your laptop to this interactive session.

Pre-Conference Seminar for Writers, Speakers, and Leaders:
The She Speaks Pre-Conference Seminar will be held Thursday, July 25th from 1 to 6 p.m., and is designed to provide an in-depth study of one of four topics: writing, speaking, leadership and the basics of developing a platform.
Each of these four areas has three workshops you can attend. For the writing, speaking and platform building tracks, we have designed the workshops to complement and build on each other. We will also be addressing basic concepts in some of them. This doesn’t mean you won’t benefit from them if you need a refresher. We just want you to be fully informed.
The leadership track is slightly different. This track is designed for women on all levels of leadership – beginner to experienced.
Even though we have designed the Pre-Conference Seminar to have four distinct tracks, you can pick and choose which workshop you want to attend within each session. Which means you can attend a writing, speaking and leadership workshop. It’s up to you.
Pre-Conference takes place Thursday afternoon before the main conference begins on Friday. The Pre-Conference fee is $150 and includes all materials but does not cover meals or hotel accommodations for Thursday Night. You will be given the opportunity to extend your stay at the hotel during the registration process if you choose to do so. You cannot participate in Pre-Conference without registering for it during the registration process.
Full payment is due at time of registration.

If circumstances arise and you need to cancel your registration the cancellation policy is as follows:
If your cancellation is received prior to May 31, 2013, you will be refunded all BUT $100.00 of your registration fee. If your cancellation is received after May 31, 2013, you will be refunded a total of $100.00.
Please understand that this cancellation policy is necessary to protect any financial loss incurred by the ministry. If your cancellation is received after May 30, 2013, based on various vendor contracts, we are still required to pay for your room, materials, and food.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I attend a Speaker Breakout Session if I am on the Writers’ Track?
Absolutely. You may be attending the conference to develop your writing skills but you are also interested in speaking. You may feel free to select the breakout session of your choice in each time slot.
What does the registration fee ($775) cover?
- All meals* from Friday lunch to Saturday dinner. Breakfast is included for hotel guests only.

* Meals/Dietary Needs: VERY IMPORTANT! All meals will be buffet style to accommodate different dietary needs such as: gluten free, vegetarian, and lactose free. There is no need to alert us of your unique dietary needs as the buffet choices will provide ample choices for you.
Do I need to make my own hotel reservations? How much are the hotel costs?
The conference hotel (Embassy Suites Concord) is full.
There are two alternative hotels that share the same parking lot as our conference hotel:

If you wish to book a room at either of these hotels, you should do so on your own. Contact information for each hotel may be found on the websites noted above.
Can I register for the conference without the hotel?
Yes, you can choose registration without the hotel being included. The cost is $615 for the main conference and $150 for the pre-conference.
Are there any She Speaks 2013 Scholarships available?
We are not able to provide scholarships, but we LOVE when scholarship donations are given for our She Speaks attendees! To date, we have not received any donations. If we do, we will share that news with you and post the information on how to apply for a scholarship on our She Speaks Blog.
How should I dress for the conference?
The basic dress code for the conference is business-casual. We recommend comfortable pants (dress/trouser jeans are ok) and a nice top. We want you to be comfortable so we don’t recommend high heels or uncomfortable shoes. We also recommend that you bring a sweater or a lightweight blazer, as the meeting rooms can get quite chilly at times. If you will be participating in a speaker evaluation group and/or meeting with a publisher or editor, you should dress professionally during these situations.
As a speaker or writer, what credentials will I gain from attending the conference?
After attending this year’s She Speaks conference you may use “A graduate of the Proverbs 31 Ministries’ 2013 She Speaks, speakers and writers conference” as a credential on your bio sheet. A sidebar button for your blog will be provided after the conference.
Can I apply to be part of the Proverbs 31 Speaker Team?
We evaluate the needs of our speaker team on an annual basis. If God is calling you to partner with us at Proverbs 31 Ministries, we encourage you to get involved with us now. This might mean volunteering for the ministry, bringing a speaker to your church, or becoming one of our ongoing donors. We are looking for women God has already called to the ministry, not just the opportunities the ministry provides. This is important because there are additional requirements, commitments and expenses for those who sense God calling them to this team. We also encourage you to develop your speaking. Before applying, each applicant will need to have an active speaking schedule for at least one year and have attended She Speaks.
Do you accept submissions for Encouragement for Today devotions?
We consider publishing a limited number of devotions from She Speaks graduates each year. These devotions must be very well written and submitted in the format we use (Use one of our current devotions as a sample). As a result we ask that only graduates with several years’ experience in actively writing and being published submit a devotion. To submit your devotion, send it to Glynnis Whitwer at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include your year of She Speaks graduation and a short bio including your publication credits.
How can I serve if I live outside of Charlotte, NC?
- Become a Prayer Partner with Proverbs 31 Ministries
- Promote Proverbs 31 Ministries in your area by contacting churches to make them aware of our ministry, P31 Woman magazine, daily devotions, etc.
- Contact radio stations in your area to see if they would host our daily radio program
- Contact bookstores in your area to promote Proverbs 31 resources

Taxi: Taxi service is available to and from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is approximately $55.00 each way and would need to be arranged individually.
Shuttle Service: Shuttle service will be provided for $20.00 each way during specific hours. You will be given the opportunity to sign up for this during the registration process. Your name will be added to a list the drivers will have — no tickets are needed! More information about where to meet the shuttle will be sent out 2 weeks before the conference.
